Experienced leader, analytical thinker, pragmatic builder.

I am Erik Pijls — an experienced leader and executive with almost three decades of experience in IT-driven organizations. My strength lies in connecting vision, strategy and execution at the intersection of business, people and technology.

My background in Applied Physics shaped a strong analytical mindset, a scientific — and therefore critical — attitude, and the conviction that almost everything is connected. There is almost always a cause behind things that appear “unexplainable”, “sudden”, or “random”. My challenge is to find that cause — and then solve it.

IT plays an increasingly essential role in almost every organization. At the same time, IT landscapes have often grown organically — becoming complex, fragmented, or simply messy. I enjoy bringing direction, structure and calm to such environments. Not only technically, but also also organizationally and culturally.

Change only works when it is supported and sustained.

I bring energy and a strong drive to achieve results that matter. I lead through trust, clarity, and connection — and I am decisive when needed. My approach is goal-oriented: from vision, through strategy, to concrete results. Careful where needed — but without endless discussion.

In the end, results matter.

In theory, vision determines strategy, strategy determines the leadership required, and leadership enables effective execution. In practice, it often works the other way around: the starting point is not vision or strategy, but the existing situation, structures and constraints.

That is exactly where I see the challenge: helping organizations make deliberate choices, rather than being led by status quo.

Strategy

Strategy is the realistic path from vision to results.

Not theoretical or abstract, but concrete, pragmatic and executable. My experience helps keep focus on what is truly needed — and distinguish ambition from wishful thinking and feasibility.

A long-term strategy is no excuse for not showing short-term improvement.

Leadership

Technology, processes and structures matter — but people ultimately determine organizational success.

Leadership is not only about setting direction, but also about creating trust, ownership and clarity. Delegating responsibility means more than distributing tasks.

Without trust there can be no discussion, without discussion no agreement, without agreement no ownership, and without ownership no results.

Execution

In the end, only one thing counts: results.

Strategy and leadership only gain value when they lead to better decision-making, predictability, collaboration and execution power.

  • making clear choices;
  • defining clear responsibilities;
  • making expectations explicit;
  • and holding each other accountable.

Staying on course is not the same as being rigid. Effective execution requires continuous adjustment — without losing sight of the larger goal.
